Competition for the best scholars is intense. One of the most effective ways to attract and retain world-class faculty is to offer endowed chairs, professorships and fellowships. Due to the impact of Campaign Iowa State, the number of endowed faculty positions has risen from 75 to 135, with a stated goal of reaching 150 named chairs and professorships.

College of Human Sciences

A remarkable transformation has occurred within the College of Human Sciences. It’s a transformation that will continue for years to come and is a direct result of the college’s generous benefactors and Campaign Iowa State.

Prior to the beginning of the campaign, there were no endowed faculty positions in the college for full-time Iowa State faculty members. Now, however, the college boasts eight such positions — and counting.

Raisbeck Endowed Dean

Funding generated from the Raisbeck Endowed Dean in the College of Business will assist the college in launching its new business and technology doctorate program, the first interdisciplinary program in business in the nation.

"The is a unique, unrestricted," gift says Labh Hira, the Raisbeck Endowed Dean in the College of Business. "The dean has the ability to use the funding for any number of initiatives the college will have in a given year. It’s a tremendous tool to help build our college programs and recruit and retain the very best faculty possible."

The position was established through a $3 million gift from David and Ellen Raisbeck, both 1971 graduates of Iowa State.

Smith Family Foundation Departmental Chair in Geology

A new gift from Tom and Evonne Smith has the opportunity to transform the department of geological and atmospheric sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The Smith Family Foundation Departmental Chair in Geology will provide the department with unprecedented opportunities to advance the teaching and research missions of the department. Funds from a $2 million gift will be used for such items as supporting cutting-edge research, recruitment of world-renowned faculty and attracting top students to campus.
