Executive Team Biographies


Dan Saftig, President


Dan Saftig serves as president of the Iowa State University Foundation -- an organization that generated more than $130 million in gifts and commitments in the 2008 fiscal year.  Dan leads a staff of 100, engages a network of more than 200 volunteers, and oversees an endowment approaching $450 million.  In October 2007, the ISU Foundation launched the $800 million “Campaign Iowa State,” the largest comprehensive campaign in the university's history.

Prior to joining the ISU Foundation in July 2003, Dan was the vice president of marketing and communications for the Minnesota Medical Foundation at the University of Minnesota. During his tenure at MMF, the organization completed a $500 million campaign supporting medical and public health research and education.

Dan’s 25-plus years in the fundraising business also includes seven at Penn State University where he led the annual giving, regional major gift, and prospect research programs. He has also worked for the American Heart Association in Wisconsin and California; and for Community Counseling Services in San Francisco as a campaign director. Dan began his career as sports information director at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse where he earned his bachelor's degree. He also holds a master's degree in nonprofit management from the University of San Francisco.


Rich Bundy, Vice President for Development


Richard Bundy serves as Vice President of Development with responsibility for the private fundraising programs in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the College of Engineering, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Veterinary Medicine, ISU Athletics, ISU Extension, the Plant Sciences Institute, the Bioeconomy Institute , and the ISU Foundation’s campus-wide Offices of Annual and Special Gifts, Campaign Iowa State, Corporate and Foundation Relations, and Gift Planning.

Prior to joining the ISU Foundation in August of 2000, Rich was a major gifts officer for the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. Previously, he managed Penn State’s LionLine program as assistant director of Annual Giving.

Rich received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in history from  Pennsylvania State University, and a Master of Business Administration with a focus on integrative management from Michigan State University.  He completed the Harvard Graduate School of Education Management Development Program in 2005.


Larissa Holtmyer Jones, Vice President for Development


Larissa Holtmyer Jones serves as Vice President for Development at the Iowa State University Foundation leading a high-energy team of fundraising professionals. Her direct responsibilities include leadership/principal gifts, the College of Business, the College of Design, the College of Human Sciences, the University Library, University Museums, the Honors Program, Women’s Giving Initiatives, fundraising training and development, Development Communications, Donor Relations, and Development Research.

Prior to joining the Iowa State University Foundation in 1997, Larissa led the corporate and foundation relations program at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, and led the annual giving program at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN. She holds a B.A. in Marketing and a M.B.A., both from Iowa State University.



Lisa Eslinger, Vice President of Finance and Operations


Lisa Eslinger joined the Iowa State University Foundation in 1998 as controller and was named vice president for finance in 2003. As vice president for finance she is responsible for all financial and investment activities of the foundation.

Prior to joining the foundation, Lisa was a senior manager with the international public accounting firm of KPMG, where she specialized in serving clients in the governmental and non-profit sectors.

Lisa received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa.


Kevin C. Stow, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources & Governance


Kevin C. Stow serves as the Assistant Vice President - Human Resources and Governance for the Iowa State University Foundation. He oversees all HR functions for a professional staff of 100 and over 100 students. In his governance role he is the staff liaison with the Foundation’s board of directors, committees and volunteer leaders. Prior to his current role, Kevin worked in the health insurance industry and the university benefits arena. Kevin received his B.S. degree from Iowa State University, is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and has obtained the designation of Professional in Human Resources (PHR). Kevin is active in the local Cyclone Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management.

Kevin and his wife, Shelley, have three children in the Ames Public Schools; Kris is a sophomore at Ames High, Betsy is in eighth grade and Kendall is in seventh grade at the Ames Middle School.
