Alumni, Friends, Corporation Honored during Distinguished Awards Ceremony
The Iowa State University Foundation honored alumni, friends and a corporation with its most prestigious honors during the annual Distinguished Awards Celebration Friday, April 17.
Receiving the Order of the Knoll Cardinal and Gold Award from the ISU Foundation was Kelley Bergstrom (B.S. ’65 industrial administration) of Kenilworth, Ill. Bergstrom is a former chair of the ISU Foundation Board of Directors and has played a significant role in advancing the ISU Foundation and philanthropic support of the university. He is the president of Bergstrom Investment Management. The Cardinal and Gold Award recognizes long-term service to the university and ISU Foundation.
The ISU Foundation’s Order of Knoll Campanile Award was given to two couples-- Erben (B.S. ’63 architectural engineering) and Margaret Hunziker of Ames, and Steve (B.S. ’79 industrial administration) and Debora Bergstrom of Montgomery, Texas. The Campanile Award recognizes leadership level gifts to Iowa State and significant service to the university. The Hunzikers have supported many campus projects throughout the years. Erben Hunziker is the president of HCS Builders. The Bergstroms are longtime supporters of Cyclone athletics and the College of Business. Steve Bergstrom is the retired president and chief operating officer of Dynegy, Inc.
The Order of the Knoll Corporate and Foundation Award, which recognizes outstanding generosity to the university by a corporation or foundation, was presented by the ISU Foundation to Wells Fargo & Company. The financial firm has invested for the past 34 years in the students, faculty, facilities, and programs of Iowa State with gifts totaling more than $2 million.
Three longtime Iowa State employees received the ISU Foundation’s Order of the Knoll Faculty/Staff Award. Recipients included Warren (B.S. ’61 industrial engineering) and Beverly (B.S. ’60 home economics education, M.S. ’70 family environment) Madden of Ames and Mark Engelbrecht (B.A.R. ’63 architecture) of Des Moines. Warren Madden is vice president of business and finance, while Beverly Madden is the retired director of Iowa State’s Career and Placement Office. She was also a faculty member in food science and human nutrition. Engelbrecht is the dean of the College of Design. The award is presented to individuals who are employed by or retired from Iowa State who have brought distinction to the university through their work.
